I submitted sitemap.xml to Google Search Console and I saw a strange query: "businesses near me". 0 clicks from Nigeria and United States for 3 months. No page found.
I went to Google search box and typed "business near me". Then I saw People also search for:
- Business near Ibadan
- Business near Lagos
- Small business near me
- Manufacturing business near me
- Startup business near me
If you are searching any of these in 2026, this post answers all 5. I live in Ibadan and I visited Lagos, and I will explain from real street experience, not copied story.
Why "Businesses Near Me" Shows 0 Clicks?
In Search Console, 0 clicks does not mean nobody searches. It means many people search, but Google could not find a good page on your site to show them.
For 3 months (June 19 to Sept 7), Google had 0 clicks for "businesses near me" for my blog because I had no dedicated page. Now I am creating this page so next 3 months it will not be 0.
If you own business in Ibadan or Lagos, you must understand "near me" search.
When someone types "business near me" on phone, Google uses GPS location to show businesses within 2km to 5km. It shows Google Maps pack first, then blog posts that explain.
So if you search in Dugbe, Ibadan, Google will show you car wash near Dugbe, barbershop near Dugbe, food near Dugbe and so on. If you search same phrase in Ikeja, Lagos, it will show business near Ikeja.
That is why 2 countries appeared in my report: Nigeria and USA. USA people also search "business near me" when they travel. Nigerians in USA search "business near Ibadan" when they want to send money home or find family business.
1. Business Near Ibadan - What People Really Look For
When people type "Business near Ibadan", they are usually in Bodija, Dugbe, Mokola, Challenge, Ring Road and need something urgently.
From what I see daily at Dugbe public park:
- Car wash near Ibadan Dugbe: We have 5 car wash points within 1km. Price ₦1,500 to ₦3,000 per car. We open 7am to 7pm.
- Barbershop near Ibadan: I closed my barbershop in 2024, but many still exist in Dugbe. Charge ₦1,000 to ₦2,000.
- Food business near Ibadan: Rice seller, puff puff seller, pure water seller. You can start with ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 as taught in POST 2.
- POS business near Ibadan: Every junction has POS. Start with ₦50,000 but you need umbrella and chair.
How to find business near Ibadan if you are new in city:
Open Google Maps, type "car wash near me" while standing in Dugbe, it will show distance like 200m, 500m. Check reviews. Call number. Go there.
I tell customers who ask me: Don't trek far. Search "business near me" on Maps, not on blog. Blog is for ideas, Maps is for location.
2. Business Near Lagos - Why It Is Different
I do not do business in Lagos. My base is Ibadan. But I observed Lagos markets: Computer Village Ikeja, Yaba, Oshodi, Alaba.
When people search "Business near Lagos", they usually want:
- Phone accessories near Computer Village: Charger, pouch, screen guard. You can start with ₦20,000 as taught before. Rent in Lagos is higher, so you need small tray, not shop.
- Okrika near Yaba: Thrift clothes, belts, caps. Start with ₦20,000 for 20 belts and 20 caps.
- Food near Oshodi: Gala, pure water, cold drinks in traffic.
Difference between Ibadan and Lagos for "near me" business:
Ibadan rent for small shop in Dugbe is ₦80,000 to ₦150,000 per year. Lagos rent in Ikeja is ₦300,000 to ₦600,000 per year. So in Lagos, many start with no shop - just table or hawking.
If you search "business near Lagos" on Google Maps in 2026, you will see more businesses without shop address, only phone number. That is normal.
3. Small Business Near Me - Most Searched of All 5
"Small business near me" is the biggest keyword among the 5 you saw. It means people want low capital business they can start close to where they live.
5 small business near me that work in both Ibadan and Lagos with ₦20,000:
a) Pure water and cold drinks hawking - cooler ₦6,000, ice ₦1,000, 4 bags water ₦1,600, 1 crate soft drink ₦5,500. Profit ₦2,500 daily.
b) Phone accessories on tray - 10 chargers x ₦1,200 = ₦12,000, 15 pouches x ₦400 = ₦6,000.
c) Puff puff and buns - flour half bag ₦8,000, oil 3 litres ₦5,000, sugar yeast butter ₦4,000, gas packaging ₦3,000. Sell 100 pieces x ₦50 = ₦5,000 daily.
d) Data reselling - register ₦2,000, buy 100GB ₦15,000, flyers ₦3,000. Sell 1GB ₦350, profit ₦100 per GB.
e) Cleaning for 3 shops - mop bucket ₦6,000, detergent ₦5,000, brush packer ₦3,000, uniform ID ₦3,000, flyers ₦3,000. Charge ₦1,500 per shop weekly = ₦4,500 weekly.
All these add to exactly ₦20,000. No fake maths.
If you search "small business near me" in Ibadan, you will find these around Dugbe park. In Lagos, you will find them around bus stops.
4. Manufacturing Business Near Me - Why It Shows Up
Many people are surprised to see "Manufacturing business near me" under business near me search. It means people want to produce something, not just sell.
In Ibadan and Lagos in 2026, small manufacturing near me includes:
- Liquid soap manufacturing: You can make 50 litres with ₦15,000 chemicals. Sell 1 litre ₦500 = ₦25,000. Profit ₦10,000. You do it at home in Dugbe.
- Zobo and kunu manufacturing: Hibiscus, ginger, sugar. Cost ₦10,000 makes 100 bottles, sell ₦200 each = ₦20,000. Profit ₦10,000.
- Bread baking: Small oven, flour, sugar. Start with ₦30,000 not ₦20,000, so bigger than small business.
But be careful: Manufacturing business near me needs NAFDAC number if you sell food. Start small for neighbors first, not for Shoprite.
When people search this keyword, they want to visit factory near them to buy wholesale cheap. So if you do manufacturing in Ibadan, register your business on Google Business Profile with address "Dugbe, Ibadan" and photos. Then you will appear when someone searches "manufacturing business near me" in Ibadan.
5. Startup Business Near Me - What It Really Means
"Startup business near me" is different from small business. Startup means new idea with plan to grow big, often with technology.
In Lagos, startup near me means fintech like PiggyVest, Cowrywise, Trove office in Yaba. In Ibadan, startup near me means agri-tech, delivery startup, small tech hub in Bodija.
If you search "startup business near me" in 2026, Google will show tech hubs, incubators, not car wash.
But you can position your small business as startup: Example, my car wash + interior cleaning + small data reselling + cleaning for 3 shops = I call it "Dugbe Car Care Startup". It is still small business, but I use startup mindset - save ₦500 daily, invest ₦5,000 in Treasury Bills, track customers.
For young hustler searching startup near me, advice: Don't look for big office. Start with one service near you, register business name with CAC for ₦20,000, create Google Business Profile free.
How to Make Your Business Appear When People Search "Business Near Me"
If you have business in Ibadan or Lagos, do these 3 steps free:
Step 1: Create Google Business Profile. Go to http://business.google.com, add name "Example: Muyiwa Car Wash Dugbe", category "Car Wash", address "Dugbe Public Park, Ibadan", phone, hours 7am-7pm.
Step 2: Add photos of your work daily. Google loves fresh photos.
Step 3: Ask 3 customers to give review. When someone near you searches "car wash near me", your business appears with stars.
I did this for my car wash point in Dugbe. Now when someone searches "car wash near Dugbe" they can see location.
