I almost closed my car wash.
That was 2022. No customers. Debt. Loan apps calling.
But 3 lessons saved me. Not big school grammar. Just street lessons that work in Nigeria.
If you’re doing business here in Ibadan, Lagos, or anywhere in Nigeria, these 3 will save you too.
Lesson 1: No Pity in Business
Nigerians will pity you and still not pay you.
Early days, a customer would say: "Egbon, abeg manage this 1k. I go balance you later."_ And I would manage. Guess what? He never came back.
I learned: Business is not charity.
Be kind, but set your price. Collect your money. Give good service. That’s it.
Pity will kill your business and your family.
Lesson 2: 9-5 + 5-9 = Your Escape Plan
I still do 9-5 with clients. But 5-9 is for my business.
After work, I’m at the car wash. On weekends, I’m posting, washing, talking to customers.
Your salary alone can’t build wealth in Nigeria.
*9-5 pays bills. 5-9 builds your future.*
If you don’t have a 5-9, you’ll always be stuck.
Lesson 3: Buy Low, Sell High
This one is simple but powerful.
For car wash: I buy soap, small towel, two buckets and brush. It’s cheaper.
For blog: I’m buying knowledge now with time and stress, so I can "sell" it later through traffic and AdSense.
Don’t buy when price is high because you’re desperate. Plan. Wait. Buy low. Sell high.
That’s how you keep profit.
Final Word from Me to You
These 3 lessons didn’t make me rich overnight. But they stopped me from going broke.
No Pity. 9-5 + 5-9. Buy Low Sell High.
Write them down. Put them on your wall.
Which of these 3 lessons hit you hardest? Comment below. Let’s learn together.
